Description
This is a treatment rather than a face wash. It contains 4 percent benzoyl peroxide, which is one of the few ingredients that genuinely kills acne-causing bacteria, and it is the step up from a salicylic acid cleanser when breakouts are not clearing.
The formula starts as a cream and foams on the skin. Hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and ceramides are included to offset the dryness benzoyl peroxide normally causes, which is what makes daily use realistic.
Use it once a day to begin with, ideally in the evening, and leave it on the skin for a minute before rinsing. Build to twice daily only if your skin tolerates it. Some dryness and mild peeling in the first two weeks is normal; burning, stinging or raw patches are not, so scale back if that happens.
Two practical warnings. Benzoyl peroxide bleaches fabric, so use a white or old towel and be careful with pillowcases and coloured clothing. And it makes skin considerably more sun-sensitive, so a daily sunscreen is not optional. Skipping it under Kenyan sun is how breakouts turn into long-lasting dark spots.
Give it six weeks before judging results. Genuine CeraVe, stocked in Nairobi and delivered countrywide.
