Description
If you have never used an exfoliating acid, this is where to begin. Lactic acid has a larger molecule than glycolic, so it penetrates more slowly and causes far less irritation, while still doing the job.
At 5 percent it lifts dead surface cells, brightens dullness, softens rough texture and helps fade superficial marks over time. Hyaluronic acid is included to offset the drying effect, which is why this suits drier and more sensitive skin than most acids do.
It is a sensible option for skin that looks tired and flat rather than congested. Sun exposure, dust and the general grind of a Nairobi week leave a build-up on the surface that no cleanser fully removes, and a mild acid used a couple of nights a week restores the glow more effectively than any brightening cream.
Use it in the evening on clean dry skin, twice a week to start, up to three or four nights as tolerated. Follow with moisturiser. Do not combine it with retinol or another acid on the same night.
Mild tingling on application is normal. Sunscreen the next morning is essential, as exfoliated skin burns and pigments considerably faster.
If your main concern is blackheads and oil rather than dullness, salicylic acid is the better choice.
