Some fragrances need explaining. Coco Mademoiselle does not. It has been one of the most worn fragrances in the world for two decades, and if you have ever caught something in a room and thought that smells expensive, there is a fair chance this was it.
It opens sharp and bright with orange and bergamot, moves through a rose and jasmine heart, and lands on patchouli and vetiver with a warm vanilla underneath. The patchouli is what gives it backbone — it stops the florals from being sweet and gives the whole thing a slightly sharp, confident edge that has aged very well.
It is a strong fragrance and it carries. In Nairobi’s cooler evenings it is superb. In heat and humidity it amplifies, so if you are wearing it at the coast or in the middle of the day, one spray is plenty. Expect eight hours or more from the eau de parfum.
It suits evenings, occasions, and anyone who wants a signature that people will recognise. It is not a quiet fragrance and is not trying to be.
